| PDE5 breaks down cGMP (“cyclic guanosine monophosphate”)! Now that’s a mouthful. Fortunately, it too can be avoided. By using the same plan as before, it’s possible to entirely bypass the medical definition of cGMP, and skip ahead to find out what it does, and how it’s related to penis pills. cGMP causes what doctors call “smooth muscle”, to relax. Relaxed “smooth muscle” allows for the easy flow of blood. If, however, the PDE5 prevents the cGMP from relaxing the “smooth muscle”, then not enough blood can flow into the penis – and the result is lack of an erection. As its name suggests, a PDE5 Inhibitor is something that inhibits, or holds back, PDE5. Now, PDE5 stands for “phosphodiesterase type 5”, another long and confusing term that can easily be avoided. In the case of penis pills, what PDE5 does is much more important than what it is. For the sake of clarity, it’s even possible to get rid of cGMP altogether: PDE5 stops the work of the “soft muscle”, which is necessary to create an erection. By blocking the PDE5, and preventing it from doing its work, a PDE5 Inhibitor – the penis pill – lets the “soft muscle” relax and do its thing: let blood pass. |
